The three Keys of defensive driving are as follows: Safety First at all times. The most basic element of it all is: to be Courteous or simply be a nice person. Proper maintenance of your vehicle. Defensive driving is about simply being a nicer person than the other guy, and driving with the emphasis on the safety of yourself and others.

Rule number one is safety first, so make sure to fasten your seatbelt. Rule number two is to stay focused and keep your eyes peeled on the road. You cannot afford distractions such as being on the phone or eating while driving; check your mirrors regularly. Lastly, keep both hands on the steering wheel.
