You’re longing to be a licensed driver, but you’ve failed the learner’s permit test. That feeling of failing is quite grim, so of course, you want to know what to do from this point. Here’s our guide to the next steps.
How Did You Fail Your Test?
In the multiple-choice permit test, there may be words in some of the possible answers that make them an incorrect choice, leading to your failure. Consider some common driving test questions that could be tricky if you don’t know the best practices for safety.
What Happens if You Fail Your Permit Test?
If you fail, you may try again the next day. But the best time to retake your permit test in PA is after some revision of the theory and knowledge you need before you can be a learner driver. You may only try three times to pass the permit test on one permit. If you pay and apply for another permit, that grants you another three attempts.
When you prepare to retake the test, consider these five tips for passing on your next try:
- Revise your driver education theoretical material and cover all the 300 rules in the manual.
- Take a drive as a passenger with a qualified driver and actively observe how they follow the rules of the road, both in traffic and on the open road.
- Check the rules about parallel parking, as they are very important. You need to know them before you even try practicing the parking moves.
- Take a practice test, check your answers, and make a note of why you made wrong answers. Then take another practice test, and another, until you improve your score—aiming for 18 correct answers.
- You cannot predict which questions you will get in the actual permit test. It will be a random selection of questions from the 300 rules, so the questions you get on your first test will be different from those on your second try. You must get 15 of the 18 permit test questions correct in order to pass.
