REAL ID: What You Need to Know
As of May 7, 2025, a standard PA driver’s license is no longer enough to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities.
Do I need a REAL ID?
- Yes: If you want to use your PA driver’s license to board domestic commercial flights or enter federal buildings/military bases.
- No: If you have a valid U.S. Passport or Military ID, you can use those instead. REAL ID is optional. You can still drive and vote with a standard license.
How to get it at D2D: While Driven2Drive is a third-party testing center for your Road Test, you must visit a PennDOT-run REAL ID Center to have your documents verified for the gold star.
- Cost: A one-time fee of $30, plus your standard renewal fee.
- Documents Required:
1. Identity: Original Birth Certificate or U.S. Passport.
2. Social Security: Original Social Security Card.
3. Residency: Two proofs of PA residency (Utility bills, bank statements, etc.).

Learner’s Permit: 2026 Rules & Restrictions
Before heading to one of our six locations, ensure you meet the latest Pennsylvania standards.

- Supervision: You must be accompanied by a licensed driver aged 21+ (or 18+ if a spouse/guardian).
- Night Restriction: No driving between 11 PM and 5 AM.
- Skill Building: You must complete 65 hours of supervised driving (including 10 night and 5 bad weather hours) and wait 6 months before your road test.
- Out-of-State Driving: Prohibited. PA permits are only valid within the Commonwealth.
